Bluelious After Effects Motion Design

Motion Design

This project was created in After Effects and the goal was to combine two words to create a shop. To begin, I brainstormed a list of words and I chose two three-syllable adjectives, blue-collar and lucious, from 3-syllable adjectives. I used the beginning of “blue-collar” and the ending “lious” from lucious to create the word Bluelious. The name Bluelious reminded me of the word delicious, which became a major inspiration for this project.

CONCEPT

Bluelious is designed as a candy shop that sells a variety of sour blue candies and is meant for all ages. The tagline, “where everything blue tastes sweet,” is a playful and memorable punchline that draws people in. To support my concept, I wanted the logo animation to reflect a fun, bouncy personality similar to the reactions of tasting sour candy. In After Effects, I used a fly-in animation style with a twist to capture this feeling. I used Baloo 2 ExtraBold to reflect a casual, bouncy feel from its rounded, soft edges. Found candy images were added to slowly appear throughout the animation. I also added a lollipop in place of an “o” and blue raspberries on top of the letter “B” so that the logo can work on its own.

REFLECTION

Through this exercise, I learned how to animate using clear typography, timing, and motion. As it was my first time using this program, I found using the brush tool and adding motion to be quite challenging. Overall, I felt that my animation captured my goal well and I enjoyed experimenting. This project has influenced how I will approach future designs because it has encouraged me to be more intentional with my animation style, visuals, and pacing.
